Hi, I’m Jessica.

I’m a wife, a mom, a student, a teacher, and someone who made the decision to stop living on autopilot and start figuring out who I really am.

I’m married to Josh, my best friend and the only person who could’ve loved me through all the walls I didn’t even know I had. We’ve grown a lot together, both as individuals and as partners. We brought old wounds into our marriage like a lot of people do, but we’ve worked hard to create something solid through honest conversations, hard lessons, and learning how to really show up for each other. We’re not perfect, but we know how to keep choosing each other.

We have two incredible little boys, Joseph and Bill. Yes, they sound like the names of two old men you see having coffee on the front porch, and I love it. Parenting has stretched us and challenged us in ways we never expected. We’re focused on being present, breaking cycles, and trying not to let fear or old habits take the lead. Some days are chaotic, but they’re also full of joy, growth, and second chances.

My personal healing journey started with a moment I couldn’t ignore. When I was 25, Codi (my sister) and I confronted a long-buried family trauma, abuse we had both experienced. Speaking the truth tore pieces of our family apart, and for a while, we were seen as the problem for bringing it up at all. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it cracked something open in me.

That moment set everything in motion. Healing didn’t happen all at once, but it came in unexpected ways, like how I parent, how I relate to others, and how I care for myself. Over time, I began reconnecting with myself emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

These days, I find peace in the quiet, everyday moments. I love a slow morning with tea on the couch while my kids play in the background. I’m always reading something or learning about a new topic, and I rewatch Supernatural more often than I should probably admit.

Healing isn’t a straight line, and I’m still learning as I go. But I’ve come a long way from the version of myself who stayed quiet to keep the peace. Now, I’m learning to live with more honesty, more presence, and more trust in myself, one unpredictable, character-building day at a time.

About the Blog

Unraveling the Self isn’t just a blog; it’s a space where we can explore all aspects of personal growth and healing. Along the way, I explore a wide range of topics that feed into that journey, from mindfulness and self-worth to the unexpected: astrology, nutrition, spirituality, parenting, Zen, and more. Whether you’re looking for solid advice on healing, figuring out your path, or simply wanting to feel a little less alone in the journey, there’s something here for you.

Some days, I share practical how-to’s. Other times, it’s more like diary entries, honest, real stories you might see a bit of yourself in.

I also love mixing in topics like history, spirituality, and the unexpected twists life throws our way. Healing isn’t neat or linear, and I believe exploring different perspectives opens the door to fresh insight and growth. That’s the bigger picture I want us to explore together.

This space is about honest reflection, learning, and connection, no matter where you’re starting from. Healing isn’t always pretty, and it’s definitely not easy, but it’s worth it. By sharing my story, resources, and a little bit of hard-earned wisdom, I hope to build a community where we can lift each other up and grow, imperfectly, authentically, and side by side.
